Glenn Ruffenach – President
Glenn Ruffenach has lived in Dunwoody since 1989. He received his BS degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and his MA from the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism. Since 1982, he has worked as a reporter, editor and columnist for The Wall Street Journal. He is a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody, where he serves as a volunteer for the Knights of Columbus. He has served as a volunteer driver for I Care since 2018, and joined the organization’s Board of Directors in 2020.
W. J. (Bill) Atkinson – Vice President
Bill Atkinson joined as a Volunteer Driver in 2009 and has served as a Board member for six years. Bill retired from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in December 2008. He was employed as a Senior Project Officer (for two agency wide contracts) and Senior Management Analyst for 29 years. Mr. Atkins is also a retired (July, 2006) U. S. Army Colonel, having earned 37 years of honorable, combined Active and Reserve service. He worked his way through the enlisted and officer (ROTC) ranks to achieve the highly challenging leadership role as Commander of two Army Reserve Hospitals at (Chattanooga and Kingsport, Tennessee, respectively).Mr. Atkinson currently serves as a volunteer for two non-profit organizations: (1) DeKalb County, Georgia Board of Health, Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) for 4 years and (2) I Care, Inc, Decatur, Georgia for one year.
Harry Charles Butcher – Secretary
Harry Butcher has been a Dunwoody resident since 1978. He received a BS from Brenau University, School of Professional Studies in 1983. He retired after 40+ years in various management positions with Avon Products in New York and the Southeast. He has been an active I Care, Inc. Volunteer Driver since 2009 and a Board member since 2012, currently serving as Secretary. He and his wife of over 50 years enjoy international travel and visiting with their four children, seven grandkids and going to the movies.
Daniel C. Lee, CPA, CFP® – Treasurer/Finance
Dan is the founder and owner of the CPA firm Dan Lee & Associates, P.C. He has 27 years of experience in Federal taxation of Estates, Trusts and Individuals. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Alabama and Georgia. He is also a Certified Financial Planner® and holds professional memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Atlanta Estate Planning Council and the DeKalb County Estate Planning Council. Dan is a graduate of Troy University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Accounting. He obtained his Certified Public Accountant license in Alabama and Georgia in 1993. His obtained his Certified Financial Planner credentials in 2002. He and his wife Olya live in Decatur and have three children.
Virginia Miller Lester – Volunteer Recruitment/Fundraising
Virginia Miller Lester has been a Volunteer Driver for I CARE, Inc. since retiring from the DeKalb County School System in 1999 where she held an administrative position as a Lead Teacher for Special Education. In the capacity of liaison between regular and special education, she sought to ensure that students’ due process rights were in compliance. After retirement, she assumed the position of an educational diagnostician and worked as an independent contractor for the DeKalb School System for nine more years. She is a trained educational mediator and holds a certificate in this area.
For the past 18 years, Virginia has enjoyed working in the real estate industry as the licensed assistant to a top-producer at Atlanta Fine Homes, Sotheby’s International. She was the treasurer of an investment club for ten years. She was the meal coordinator at St. Thomas More for Hagar’s House, a shelter in Decatur for five years. She is currently a volunteer for Martha’s Ministry at St. Thomas More. She has served as a board member on the Homeowner’s Association of Glennwood Estates and before moving to Decatur, was on the board of the condo association where she resided. As a longstanding member of the Atlanta Knitting Guild, she served as workshop co-chairperson for two years.
Thomas Simon – Director
Tom Simon has been Director of I CARE since November, 2008 and involved in Non-Profit work for over 15 years. His responsibilities as Director of I CARE include; Recruiting and training of volunteer drivers, fundraising/ grant applications, financial controls, representative to the community and office/administrative management.
Additionally, Tom volunteers at the following organizations: St. Joseph’s Hospital – Cancer Survivors Network, NCI – NRG Patient Advocate, FDA Patient Representative/Consultant, Lung/General Cancer Support Group Facilitator, President Men’s Club All Saints Church, Volunteer for Knights of Columbus Council 11402, and Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.
